How porn affects relationships:

  • According to a study that tracked couples over time, porn consumption was the second strongest indicator that a relationship would suffer. Perry, S. (2017). Does Viewing Pornography Reduce Marital Quality Over Time? Evidence From Longitudinal Data. Archives Of Sexual Behavior, 46(2), 549-559. Doi: 10.1007/S10508-016-0770-Y

  • Plus, research consistently shows that porn consumers are twice as likely to later report experiencing a divorce or breakup—even after controlling for marital happiness, sexual satisfaction, and other relevant factors. Perry, S. L. (2018). Pornography use and marital separation: Evidence from two-wave panel data. Archives of Sexual Behavior, 47(6), 1869-1880. doi:10.1007/s10508-017-1080-8

  • Pornography, for example, can take our brains’ natural stimuli—our desire for intimacy and connection—and give us more quantity, more exaggerated, and more “supernormal” versions of that desire.34 Through the neuroplastic process, porn can change what we perceive as normal, warp what we find exciting, and make real intimacy seem less interesting by comparison.35

  • These changes in our expectations can have tremendous implications for how we view others and how we view relationships.

  • Only 11 percent of women experience an orgasm the first time they hook up with someone. Within the confines of relationships that have lasted 6 months+ 60-70% of women will achieve orgasm regularly

  • 30% of women or less than 1/3 experience orgasm from vaginal penetration alone. The remaining 70% sometimes, rarely or never experience it from vaginal penetration. Most common way for women to orgasm is clitoral stimulation.

  • In porn, women are featured orgasming only 18% of the time, and only 25% of that percent was featuring clitoral stimulation (which is what majority of people need to have an orgasm)

  • Prof. Kontula found that in 2015, only 6 percent of women said that they always had an orgasm during penile-vaginal intercourse, 40 percent said they had an orgasm nearly always, 16 percent of women had an orgasm half the time, and 38 percent had one infrequently. A total of 14 percent of women under the age of 35 had never had an orgasm from intercourse.

Gallup poll.

  • Number of abortions peaked in 1990 - 1.6 million (Guttmacher Institute)

  • The actual numbers are very underreported because many institutions and whole states like California, Maryland and New Hampshire refuse to report data to CDC. Guttmacher provides better estimates because it factors in those states at an estimated rate.

  • In 2020, the # of estimated abortions was 930,000

  • Abortion rate is 14.4 out of 1000 women or 1.44% of women have an abortion in 2020

  • Number of providers for abortions has dropped from 2,908 to 1,603

  • Abortions by age group: teens account for 8%, 57% are women in 20s, 31% women in 30s and 4% women in 40s

  • In 1999 Plan B pill came out - this could be a huge reason for decline in as many abortions in the following 25 years

  • 30% of women will have an abortion by the time they are 45

  • 62.2% of women who have an abortion had previous mental health disorders diagnosed, whereas only 42.1% of women had mental health disorders prior to a first childbirth (no abortion history).

  • Full or attempted rape has been experienced by 25% of women and 1 in 26 men.

  • 1 out of 9 men is forced to penetrate another person at some point in their lives.

  • The average number of rape and sexual assault victims REPORTED is 463,634 annually in the U.S. (this includes those 12 and older - so missing all the children here)

  • It’s estimated that 39% of rapes are actually reported and of that 39% only 16% result in a conviction

  • ONLY 6% of rapists serve ANY jail time (those reported and unreported).

  • 46% of bisexual women have been raped

  • 47% of transgender individuals have experienced some type of sexual assault

  • It’s estimated that 1 to 2 milllion couples are waiting to adopt a child

  • For every 1 baby put up for adoption there are 36 families waiting

  • In 2019, 115,000 adoptions took place

  • 114,000 foster children are eligible for and waiting to be adopted

  • In 2021, 54,200 foster kids were adopted

  • The average age of a child waiting to be adopted is almost 8 years old

  • 85% of adopted children were in “very good to excellent health”

  • Adoptive parents being significantly more involved in their child's education and extracurricular activities than any other parents.

  • The big thing here is commenting on the stark contrast between children who are put up for adoption vs. kids who wind up in the foster care system. When people put up for adoption - the kids actually have very good outcomes because their parents were heavily vetted, financially stable, desperately wanted to be parents not an accident
